Day 2/3 St. Jean Pied de Port

Today was a day of business and pleasure. We got up very early and set out on an adventure trek in search of coffee, and YOU GUYS, we found the most amazing coffee. The French really know how to make outstanding coffee. I think I had a total of like 5 cups, which in French cup sizes, is probably equivalent to two at home. It was indescribable.

The pics here show much of the walk we need to do each time we head into town. It is obviously quite beautiful and breathtaking. We pass the bridge, and the sheep before we reach this area that is “inside city walls” which is the old town area. This area is full of interesting architecture and historical beauty.

This gentleman’s name is Jean Francois. He is our host at the Donamaria, the bed and breakfast we are staying in. He is incredibly kind and generous. The table shows part of the breakfast feast he prepared for us today. I was purposely taking a picture of that beautiful  coffee pot, however.

In this picture he is stamping our pilgrim passports. He has a stamp, but then also adds colorful art work to make his stamp more intriguing. I was stunned at how much time and intricacy he put into each of the individual stamps he did!

Look how overwhelming this architecture is!!!
I bought this necklace because I thought it was beautiful. I doubt I’ll be buying much else while here, considering I would have to carry whatever I buy!

This is a tiny place in the old part of the city “inside the wall” that Deb and I had lunch today. It was delicious and my favorite part of the meal was the ice cold water, as it is super hot and humid here. The meal was also quite delish, however.
